Week 7 UX Observation update
1. Flexibility and Efficiency of Use
- Code Repository Platform: GitHub
- Application: It allows power users to hit the 't' key on any repository page to instantly open a fuzzy-finder file search, bypassing nested folder structures and vastly speeding up code navigation.
2. Error Prevention
- Airline Booking: Delta Air Lines
- Application: When selecting a return flight date, the interface automatically grays out and disables all calendar dates prior to the departure date, making it physically impossible for a user to select an invalid travel window.
3. Match Between System and the Real World
- E-Reader App: Amazon Kindle
- Application: The digital reading interface uses a skeuomorphic page-turn animation that mimics the physical movement of flipping a paper book page when swiping left or right.
4. Visibility of System Status
- E-Commerce Checkout: Shopify
- Application: The checkout page features a numbered multi-step breadcrumb trail (Information → Shipping → Payment) at the top of the screen, explicitly highlighting the user's current step in the purchase tunnel.
5. Help Users Recognize, Diagnose, and Recover from Errors
- Crypto Wallet: Phantom
- Application: If a user attempts to send cryptocurrency to an invalid string or the wrong blockchain address format, the app throws a red error message stating "Invalid address" and disables the send button, explaining exactly why the transaction cannot proceed.
