Week 6 UX Observation update
1. Visibility of System Status
- File Hosting Service: Dropbox
- Application: When uploading a file, a dynamic progress bar with an estimated time remaining flashes on the screen, keeping the user fully informed of the transfer status.
2. User Control and Freedom
Writing Platform: Notion
- Application: It includes an extensive page history menu, giving users the freedom to instantly roll back any document to an exact earlier version if they make a mistake.
3. Match Between System and the Real World
- Fintech App: Apple Wallet
- Application: The user interface designs credit cards to look exactly like physical plastic cards, complete with realistic skeuomorphic flipping animations when viewing card details.
4. Consistency and Standards
- E-commerce Platform: Amazon
- Application: It places the shopping cart icon in the top right corner of every page, adhering perfectly to global web conventions so users never have to search for their total.
5. Recognition Rather Than Recall
- Music Streaming: Spotify
- Application: The search tab keeps a visible list of your "Recent Searches" directly beneath the input field, allowing you to jump back to a favorite artist without needing to type their name again.
Would you like to explore how to apply these heuristics to a specific design project you are working on, or should we deep-dive into conducting a heuristic evaluation?
